Bangladesh has seen a sharp increase in students heading to China for higher education, especially at the Master’s and PhD levels. The CSC scholarship is the most accessible fully funded option, and Bangladeshi applicants have been performing well in recent cycles. But the number of applicants is growing faster than the available slots, which means your application needs to stand out.
Here is what Bangladeshi students need to know for the 2026 CSC cycle.
How many slots does Bangladesh get?
Bangladesh receives roughly 75-125 CSC scholarship slots per year through the embassy channel. The exact number shifts depending on bilateral negotiations, but it has been trending upward. Beyond the embassy allocation, there is no cap on how many Bangladeshi students can receive CSC funding through the university channel.
China and Bangladesh cooperate closely on infrastructure and energy projects. Research areas aligned with these priorities tend to get favorable consideration.
Application channels
Two routes are open to Bangladeshi applicants:
Type A (Embassy Channel):
- Apply through the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka
- Agency number: 0601
- Embassy shortlists and forwards to CSC
- Deadline typically in February
Type B (University Channel):
- Apply directly to Chinese universities
- Get a professor’s acceptance letter for best results
- The university nominates you to CSC
- No country quota on this route
Apply through both channels. This is allowed, and it is the most common strategy among students who actually get the scholarship.
Required documents
- Valid passport (at least 2 years validity remaining)
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree certificate and transcripts (attested)
- Study plan (800+ words) or research proposal (1500+ words for PhD)
- Two recommendation letters from academic referees
- English proficiency evidence (IELTS, TOEFL, or medium-of-instruction certificate)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form
- Police clearance certificate
- Acceptance letter from a Chinese professor (highly recommended)
- Passport photos (white background)
Getting documents attested in Bangladesh takes time. Start the process at least 3-4 weeks before the deadline.
Step-by-step process
-
Decide on your degree level. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD each have different requirements and success rates. Read our comparison of degree levels and their scholarship odds to make an informed choice.
-
Choose your universities. Target 3-5 institutions. Look at acceptance rates, not just rankings.
-
Contact potential supervisors. For Master’s and PhD programs, reach out to professors at your target universities. Use our cold emailing guide with templates to write emails that get responses.
-
Prepare all documents and get them attested.
-
Complete the CSC online application at campuschina.org.
-
Submit to the embassy (Type A) and/or directly to universities (Type B).

Tips for Bangladeshi applicants
Medical check takes time. The Foreigner Physical Examination Form requires multiple tests. In Dhaka, authorized hospitals can be backed up during the CSC application season. Schedule yours early.
The study plan wins or loses your application. Bangladeshi applicants often have strong academic records. The differentiator is the study plan. Write it like a mini-proposal. Name specific research gaps, explain your methodology, and connect your work to the professor you want to study under.
Engineering and science fields are strong. Bangladeshi students in STEM fields (civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental science, textile engineering) have historically done well. If your field aligns with China-Bangladesh cooperation areas, mention that connection explicitly.
Look beyond Dhaka. The embassy channel goes through Dhaka, but for the university channel, you can contact universities directly from anywhere. Students from Chittagong, Rajshahi, and Sylhet have all gotten CSC scholarships.
Get your English proficiency sorted. If you do not have IELTS, a medium-of-instruction letter from your university will work for most Chinese institutions. Just make sure it is on official letterhead and signed by the registrar.
Frequently asked questions
Is IELTS mandatory?
No. A medium-of-instruction letter confirming English as your study language is accepted by the vast majority of Chinese universities.
Can I apply for MBBS on CSC?
Yes, but MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine) programs under CSC are limited. Check specific university offerings. Competition for medical programs is particularly high.
What if I get rejected?
Rejection is not the end. Many successful CSC scholars were rejected on their first attempt. Apply again the next cycle with a stronger application.
