Ghana has a growing presence in Chinese universities. The CSC scholarship offers Ghanaian students full funding, and the bilateral relationship between Ghana and China supports a healthy number of scholarship slots each year. This guide covers everything you need to know for the 2026 application cycle.
How many slots does Ghana get?
Ghana receives roughly 50-75 CSC slots per year through the embassy channel. Through the university channel, Ghanaian students compete in the general pool with no country cap.

Tips for Ghanaian applicants
Check with the Scholarship Secretariat. Ghana’s Scholarship Secretariat sometimes coordinates CSC applications alongside the embassy. Contact both to understand which route is available for your cycle.
Your degree level matters. Master’s and PhD applicants have significantly higher success rates than Bachelor’s applicants. If you are weighing your options, read our breakdown of how degree levels affect scholarship odds.
Apply early. Do not wait until the last week. Universities that review applications on a rolling basis fill their nominee slots early. See our timing strategies guide for detailed advice on when to submit.
Mining, engineering, and agriculture are strong fields. Ghana-China cooperation includes mining, infrastructure, and agriculture. Research proposals aligned with these sectors tend to perform well.
Medium-of-instruction letter works. Ghanaian universities use English. Get a letter confirming this and you likely will not need IELTS.
