Myanmar shares a long border with China, and the two countries have maintained educational cooperation despite political complexities. Myanmar students continue to receive CSC scholarships, and the university channel remains accessible for applicants.
How many slots does Myanmar get?
Myanmar receives approximately 40-70 CSC slots through the embassy (Type A) channel. The exact number depends on the bilateral agreement for each year. The university (Type B) channel has no country cap.

Tips for Myanmar applicants
Yunnan and Guangxi have strong ties to Myanmar. Universities in these border provinces are particularly familiar with Myanmar students and may have programs specifically designed for Southeast Asian applicants.
Apply through both channels. Do not rely on just one route. The university channel is especially valuable when embassy appointments or processing are uncertain.
Watch your timing carefully. Deadlines can shift, and processing times may be longer than expected. Start early and check the timing strategies guide for a month-by-month breakdown of what to do when.
Chinese language is a real advantage. Many Myanmar students in border areas already speak some Mandarin. If you have HSK certification, you gain access to Chinese-taught programs. These have less competition than English-taught options.
