Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (Chinese: 上海对外经贸大学; abbreviated as SUIBE), formerly known as Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (abbreviated as SIFT), was originally founded in 1960. It is affiliated with the City of Shanghai and funded by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It is the only university in East China specializing in international business, dedicated to cultivating talent in international economics and trade.

The university was originally under the direct administration of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of China. In 1994, it came under the leadership of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It was one of the world's first and China's first universities to host a WTO Chair.

As of March 2024, SUIBE covers an area of approximately 670,000 square meters. It comprises 20 secondary-level units (colleges/institutes), offers 35 undergraduate programs, and features facilities such as student dormitories, the Library and Information Building, and the Xuesi Building.

Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (formerly Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade) was founded in 1960. The original campus was located at 620 Gubei Road, Changning District, Shanghai.

In 1994, the university was transferred to the administration of the Shanghai Municipal Government.

In 2000, the municipal government allocated land in Songjiang District to build a new campus, which was put into use the following year.

In 2009, the university was selected as one of the world's first WTO Chairs institutions and remains the only one in China.

In 2013, the Ministry of Education approved its renaming to Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.
